Sashimi (sliced raw fish), especially Maguro Sashimi (Raw Tuna) , is very popular and common food in Ishigaki. You can easily find several sashimi shops around the corner even in downtown. Unlike a supermarket or a grocery store, a sashimi shop is operated in most cases by one or 2 local ladies, who are friendly and unpretentious. In most cases you have to select a package of sliced raw fish from their showcase and it only costs 300yen~500yen. Various types of tuna is being caught around Ishigaki and sold almost through out the year.
