Traditional Entertainment - Songs and Dances - of Ishigaki Island （石垣島の伝統芸能）

What makes Ishigaki island popular is not only blue sky and white beaches, but also the uniquness of its traditional entertainment. Traditional folk songs and dances have been handed down from generation to generation and there are many citizens who care about the tradition and parctice very hard to be successors of the entertainment. If you stay on the islland for a few months, you may be lucky enough to have opportunities to watch theire performances. Among those successors are local high school students. As the in-school activity the three high schools on the island encourage students participating such activities.
